Uncorking Kent

For 14 years, Robert Morson has been cultivating friends as owner of Riverside wine shop in Kent. At first his business on North Mantua Street was strictly a beer and wine take-out, but things blossomed once he was able to serve patrons on the premises. Morson says his 2006 addition of 160 seats on a deck overlooking the Cuyahoga River has made Riverside a go-to place for friends to meet in warmer weather. Propane heaters help on chilly nights. Though Morson keeps the smoke-free deck open all year, he says only his heartiest customers go out there in the winter. He’s proud of the role he plays bringing the Kent and Kent State communities together.

Refining Your Tastes

Riverside Offers Wine, Food and Atmosphere

Wine tastings allow customers to sample a variety of wines.

Riverside's deck is a popular place for people to gather to talk, drink wine and take in the scenery along the Cuyahoga River.

Riverside owner Robert Morson explains the progression people make from simple to more complex beer and wines.
Riverside was one of the first Portage County establishments to offer a smoke-free environment even before the ban. Smoking is not even permitted on the deck overlooking the river. Riverside offers simple food choices, but owner Robert Morson is hoping to add food grilled on the outdoor deck to the menu this summer.
